Houston dog faces in the crowd

Ginger is a new nail trim client of mine and she brought her 3 buddies as well, but she is the prettiest one of all to me. I really like senior faces when I go scouting for dog faces. Puppies? yawn
Penni is a 6 year old stunner!  She is up for adoption  at CAP 281-497-0591. She is very laid back and great with children. Barbara is her foster mom. Her rescuer died suddenly so CAP took on 3 of her dogs.

Bailey was spotted at a donut shop in Rosehill, Texas

Donovan was adopted as a puppy by a CAP employee and he is now moving to Mexico with her!
He is a gentle giant.
Cricket has a metal pin in one front leg but the vet did such a good job you can't tell which one! He needs a home as well.I am his foster. He is modeling a belly band which is a great invention for some male chihuahuas.
Leonard is Baileys roommate and also at the Rosehill donut shop.
It is great fun sharing with you the dog faces I find in my travels. Please visit and like the Pet Stuff Resale page on Facebook. cell 7 days a week is 817-480-8400

Dog items/TALL cat tree in at Houston's Pet Stuff Resale

N2N medium crate, not recommended for airline travel 16x17x23
door opens either side -in excellent condition 18.00 SOLD

Retro double diner in excellent condition 7.00

This tree is a whopping 6ft, 9in tall. It will take a while to refurbish and cost is not quite determined. It depends on my source for the sisal; probably between 115.00 and 125.00.
It is not recommended for kittens or senior cats. There are so many requests for tall trees
that it is being shown in the "before" condition so it can be reserved.

This whale baby tub is great for small dogs or kittens. It is 7" in at the deepest point, 30" total length, 17" of which is useable space, 12" wide 9.00
Elfin bolted a nanosecond later when he figured out it was a BATHTUB!

new 15" tall steps, foldable

Look what was in the Pet Stuff Resale warehouse!

End of the year means doing inventory in preparation for taxes and EVERY year there are surprises.."oh yea, that's where that was" kind of revelations:)

This ottoman instantly meowed at me in the store..looks like a cattoman to me. Cats would love to perch on it AND tear around under the skirt underneath as well.

A nice touch that the legs are covered and the skirt is lined.

This very well made custom "cattoman" is 21.00 SOLD
This 10-15 gallon aquarium stand has been nicely repainted with a semi gloss paint; coupled with a 10 gal tank and lights(too cold for photographer to assemble) it is for sale for 42.00.
It can however be repurposed for several other things. The back can be enclosed or not and provide storage...maybe gardening things or in a spare room. I can see a large beach scene painting perched on it.
A sunken planter would do well or 2-3 pots on top; it is fairly strong.26.00 by itself
Baby gates are just flat good, cheap insurance!  It's amazing what doesn't get chewed when puppies can't get to it... This expands to 40" in.  17.00 SOLD

Manufacturers should make pink crates every year; they are that popular. Since they aren't, they are in high demand in the secondary market. 12.00 SOLD

This large(24x26x36")  Deluxe Vari Kennel is popular due to having metal vents on the sides.
This is tougher for those teenage puppies to chew... 50.00 at Pet Stuff Resale

This is baby Elfin, a 4 month old chihuahua weighing only 2.1 lb, with horrendously luxating patellas. He was released by the SPCA(Thank you!) to Chestnut Rehab, a nonprofit in Bellaire, Tx. to get more orthopedic help than a shelter can provide.
He needs a miracle of a TV story or the like due to the expense of this complicated surgery.  In an unusual move, 3 of my bud vets from 2 clinics are teaming up for the surgery. Coordinating the tax deductible donations is Chestnut Rehab,4834 Chestnut, Bellaire, Tx 77401. 713-667-4244 There is no chip in or Pay Pal involved.

Thank you for reading the Pet Stuff Resale blog; please share it with your buds. Part of the proceeds goes to rescue efforts. Please join us on Facebook at Pet Stuff Resale.

Cat, kitten items in at Pet Stuff Resale

I wish I could get more items in for cats, so happy to have a few for all of the cat lovers out there!

These large capacity litter boxes are great for several reasons. The hood keeps most dogs from snacking on the contents(gross, but it happens) as well as keeps litter from flying all over the place. The ridges on the ramp and the ramp itself also reduces the amount of litter escaping.
As are all items from Pet Stuff Resale, these have been disinfected and are 20.00 each.

EmeryBoard scratching pad, looks to be new, my cats literally pounced on it when I put one down, no sniffing around, getting used to a new thing, just POUNCE and scratch!  8.00

Ok, small dogs would like this pink bed as well, but it just looked "feline Princess" to me; inner pad is removeable. 6.00
This woven bed could also be for small dogs but I removed  a cat from it at the thrift store, so know cats would like it as well!  9.00

I will have all of these items and more  near the Greater Good, I 10 and Dairy Ashford in West Houston, Sat and Sunday-12-4. 817-480-8400-Houston cell

We will NOT look at the camera, we made a pact!

These precious babies were turned into a shelter together as strays. They are all the same age, about 18 months old and the two rough coated ones are obviously litter mates and the 3rd smaller one may be as well. They are all altered and heartworm negative. I have been fostering them for about 6 months as they had no social skills, but I have yet to come up with good names; Eenie, Meeny and Moe didn't work, nor did Larry, Moe and Curly. Don't even suggest Huey, Louie and Dewey! The 2 rough coated ones are a male and female at 8 lbs and the other one, a 5 pounder, I call HoneyB after her lookalike Honey the Pibble. I would like to place the pair together and all 3 will need patient homes as they are still a tad spooky. Of course al adult homes are needed in ths case. They are crate trained and skilled at both burrowing and snuggling. They are also fine with other dogs, even bigger ones.

It's raining cats and chihuahuas in Houston rescue

Kitten season runs from March to November in Houston, where  more kittens are available for adoption than there are homes. Even sadder, the availability of kittens overwhelms shelters and rescue groups with "less adoptable" adult cats. Talk about age discrimination! I don't get it. I am currently fostering Stephen Lee the kitten, who is a definite deterrent to me fostering a kitten in the future. He is on the left in the orange cat picture.(ok, he is really a cream tabby, not orange) He is very cute but very energetic.Fortunately the adult male cats have pretty much raised him; the females have tried to ignore him. SL was handed to me when he weighed 8 oz and is named after Stephen L. Burda, DVM of Jester Plaza Vet Clinic who saved his life(mostly by email :) when he had multiple problems. One eye is slightly smaller than the other as well.
Temple on the right was himself raised by a surrogate mom after his biological mom killed the rest of his litter
and he in turn has helped raise Stephen Lee. He is a year old and named after a type of Florida orange.

The top picture features another overabundant breed rescue "client". Chihuahuas are everywhere! Yes, Paris Hilton did contribute to this problem, but so did Traders Village in my opinion and Taco Bell was the original criminal. Their demand at shelters has gone way down. 3 year old  Rica on the left feels discriminated against. She came from a backyard breeder of a different breed, who surrendered those dogs to that rescue. I was asked take Rica(and her heartworms). She has been successfully treated and has also settled down a bunch. She is quite the snuggler and despite the picture, does get along with cats.

Not showing well, but also an affectionate, sometimes sportingly feisty baby, is Tucker. He is a 2-3 year old
declawed Siamese male, dumped at a shelter by an owner who could no longer be bothered. He has been
a great coparent to SL and of course gets along with dogs.

All of these babies need permanent homes...outta of mine! They all are used to dry food only and none are
picky eaters nor have any health problems.

Iams' Home for the Holidays Adoption program is a REALLY bad idea.

It sounds so nice and since 1999, a bazillion animals have gotten adopted thru this cosponsored program. It even made the opening bell of the Stock Exchange this week, making folks feel all warm and fuzzy. I'm betting they haven't documented the number of returns of these pets in the days following the holidays. I worry much more about the animals that aren't returned, but thrown outside, given away or just abandoned.
Ironically here in Houston on the same day as the seven dogs were posed at the Stock Exchange, the TV news had a story from a shelter, showing all the empty cages and saying "Sadly, many of these pets will be returned"
The pet industry needs to work in tandem on this issue. Pets are NOT for holidays
or birthdays. The concept of promoting pets at Christmas to deflect puppy mills
makes no sense to me, as many of the puppy mill buyers want the tiny and small dogs which are in the minority at shelters.
If Iams wants to save a really large number of pets, they should organize a "Get Your
Christmas Pet in July" promotion. The number of puppies and kittens killed in Houston Texas in the summer months is staggering, yet in December shelters run out.
Let's balance this supply/demand cycle folks! It's so much better for the animal to enter a new environment free of holiday stresses, they have enough with which to contend already. Granted, it's not quite as exciting, but the pictures of crates
full of kittens should be an exciting concept when the tide can be turned for many more of those precious faces.

Frankie is REALLY tired of resting up!

He wants to play and snuggle, poor baby.
He is being very good and is not fighting being in the crate. Today is the first time I have left him for any length of time; I do have other foster dogs that need some attention also.....
Today I am at CAP with a beautiful black cocker spaniel named Lady and Frankie's suitemate, Monte, the Jack Russell.
